Defining the Baby Boomer Generation
If you are familiar with the term ‘baby boomer’, you may know it refers to a person born during the post second world war baby boom. But what is a baby boomer, what is a baby boomer, and what makes this generation special? A baby boomer is a person born between 1946 and 1964, in a period of above average birth rates. This generation is now between 58 and 76 years old and number about one-third of the population. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated that about 74 million baby boomers were in the United States in 2019.
The baby boomers were characterized as hard working, responsible and keen on contributing positively in the society. They were children of one of the most significant cultural and social changes, the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, and the 60s counterculture. This environment determined their values and outlook on the world, and many baby boomers were passionate about social and political issues.
Activism is, however, not the only reason why baby boomers are known. They are also known for their entrepreneurship and business savvy. Some have owned their businesses or have worked their way up the corporate ladder to become successful professionals in different fields.
