6:13 AM: I get up and pull myself out of bed. I have a long day ahead of me but I am glad to be starting it. I get up, take a shower, get dressed, and make myself a cup of coffee before sitting down at my kitchen table with a copy of today’s work schedule.
7:03 AM: I get up after having breakfast and go to the office. I work in a big asset management company and our team is in charge of a mutual fund that invests in technology stocks. Some of the companies in our portfolio include Apple, Microsoft and Amazon. I have been with the company for five years and I like the pace. I love the job but it is also stressful at the same time.
7:57 AM: I sit down at my desk and start checking my email. There are some messages from my team regarding the portfolio and some news about tech companies that I will read later. I also check in with a few of my colleagues to see if there is anything that needs my attention right away.
8:45 AM: We have a daily team meeting to discuss the performance of the fund and what needs to be done with the portfolio. It has been good of late, but I always want to make the fund perform better. The portfolio is reviewed and discussed are any possible investment and or danger that may be embraced in the market. We also look at the economic data and market information to determine the general circumstances in the financial markets.
10:07 AM: After the meeting, I spend some time looking for possible investments. I review the financial statements and analyze the market trends in order to identify potential companies that could be of benefit to the fund. I also look at the portfolio to determine which investments may not be doing well and thus require to be sold. I keep my eyes on the major market indicators such as the S&P 500 and the VIX index to judge the general market mood.
12:01 PM: It is time for lunch and I leave to get a sandwich from the deli around the corner. While I eat, I read more news about the tech industry and the financial markets. I also communicate with a few of my clients and see if they have any questions or concerns regarding the fund’s yields. One of my clients has shown interest in the investments that we have made in Amazon and I spend some time preparing a report for them.
12:47 PM: I return to my office and for the remainder of the day I make investment decisions and implement trades. It is a long day but I am fresh and motivated and I like the challenge of finding the best investments for our fund. I am always in sync with my team in order to guarantee that we make the right decisions that are convenient with the fund’s investment goals. I also focus on the volume and price of the stocks in our portfolio as well as any changes that may occur in an attempt to identify any buying or selling signals. Today, I am particularly interested in tracking the trends of Microsoft because the company is to unveil a new product line this week.
4:07 PM: As the day comes to a close, I finish up any work and get ready for the next day. Right before leaving the office, I tell myself to check on the portfolio once more in the morning to see how the investments are doing. I also spend some time to do some other duties and check on the compliance documents to ensure that we are up to the law.
5:34 PM: I am finally able to leave for home and I am exhausted but happy for a day’s work. It is a demanding job but I love what I do and I always seek to attain the best results for the fund and our investors. I spend some time with my family and then I go to bed, looking forward to another exciting day tomorrow.
